Andaman and Nicobar Islands are situated at a far away distance separated by thick blue water of the Bay of Bengal. Once the passenger/ tourist reaches the Island, naturally he/she is cut off from mainland. The situation was bad during 1960s, 70s and even up to mid of 80s. The Andaman and Nicobar Islands are now provided with communication facilities though not fully to a satisfactory level. Particulars about the Islands, availability of accommodation air tickets, ship tickets etc., should be known to tourists so as to enable them to give a shape to their programmers and plans. After coming to these Islands, messages to and from his own house, relatives and friends on the mainland or foreign countries are very important so that they can enjoy the beauty of this lush green sunny paradise without any worries. The importance of communication is in no way less than the importance of transport. Though the facility is not fully available to the interior islands, the main Inter Islands have full communication facilities which are useful to all tourists. There are 32 sub-post offices, 64 branch post offices besides one head post office, one telegraphic office and telephone exchanges functioning in this territory.

Port Blair Doordarshan and Port Blair All India Radio, having their studios at Delanipur (two kms from the Port Blair bus terminus), are an excellent means of communicating the ideas to the most interior parts where no other means of communication are possible. Moreover, the cable T.V operators share the social responsibility of providing communication means, thereby the people of these islands enjoy different satellite T.V's Programmes.
