Pilar (7km): The Pilar complex consisting of Seminary, Church and Theological College are located on a hill with magnificent views of River Zuari, Marmagao Harbour and surrounding countryside. In the foreground of the complex is a beautiful heart shaped garden inspired by the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Pilar Seminary was established by the Capuchins in 1613. Franciscan fathers built Pilar Monastery, the headquarters of the order of St. Francis Xavier. The monastery's main altar, the Church of Our Lady of Pilar is dedicated to Our Lady who appeared to the Apostle St Tiago on a pillar in the Spanish town of Saragoca. She is the Patroness of the Monastery and the church and gives it its name. An idol of St Francis, patron saint of the Goan people has pride of place in the Chapel. Pilar is also a famous pilgrimage centre where people congregate to invoke Fr. Agnelo's blessings. Father Agnelo was a revered priest (1869-1927) who studied at Pilar and is entombed here.

Govapuri: The 11th Century capital of Kadamba dynasty is located at the foot of Pilar hill. Excavations have unearthed pottery shards and temple artifacts preserved at the museum in Pilar Seminary.
Talaulim: Close to Pilar is the village of Talaulim, best known for the Church of St. Anna. Built in 1695, the five storied façade and beautiful vault are considered prime examples of 16th Century church architecture in Goa. The church is open on Sundays as well as on feast days.
Divar Island: Catch the ferry near Viceroy's Arch to reach this little island on the Mandovi. One of the four islands around Old Goa, Divar has a small community of some 3500 residents, three churches, a few indispensable bars and a resort.
